An example of some of the Flatonia students participating in the Marathon Kids program, left to right: LeAnthony Anderson (3rd grader), Isaiah Tovar (3rd grader), Gage Grahmann (2nd grader), Stassney Ahrens (3rd grader) and Briana Pavlica (3rd grader)

Flatonia students, Kindergarten-6th graders, have started the Marathon Kids walking program this school year. There approximately 300 students who are currently participating in the program. They are using the school’s brand new track that was constructed and completed in September 2020. In order to keep track of students’ completed laps, they use the Marathon Kids app.

Each student has a laminated card with their unique QR code, and the coaches scan students’ cards once laps are completed with a phone and IPAD.

ABOUT THE MARATHON KIDS PROGRAM:

At Marathon Kids, we are on a mission to get kids moving and we take our mission seriously. Research shows that when kids participate in Marathon Kids, they have a much better chance of getting enough daily physical activity. That’s good news for their bodies and their minds. When kids feel healthy, they perform better in school, make better choices, and exhibit better behavior. That’s why the Marathon Kids program is free, so all kids can participate, regardless of zip code.
