Flatonia Jump Rope Winners Crowned
On, March 11, 2021, Flatonia Elementary School participated in the Little Bulldog’s Jumping Journey Program. This program is one of the various programs offered by the Fayette County Helpers. Fayette County Helpers offers youth class tutoring as well, and Mr. Jeff Kelly, Jr. is the President of this organization. Mrs. Forest and Mr. Jeff Kelly, Jr. have implemented this Jump Rope program in a couple of other schools in Fayette County, including La Grange Elementary and La Grange Sacred Heart, and now Flatonia. They both started the Jump Rope Program seven years ago in La Grange.
For the Jump Rope Program, Flatonia had 24 2nd graders participate. Each student received a t-shirt and jump rope. The students prepared during the months of February and March and worked on their jump rope skills, and the Flatonia PE Teachers, Coach Sue Smith and Coach Brandon Williams, stressed the importance of physical fitness and how jumping rope is a life-long skill and can improve health.
There were a couple of special guests present for our event: Mrs. Karen Forest and Mr. Jeff Kelly, III. Mrs. Karen Forest worked in education for many years and has a passion for jumping rope and children. Mr. Jeff Kelly, III, is the son of Jeff Kelly Jr, and former NFL Football Linebacker who played football for the Atlanta Falcons and Kansas State University.
For the program, all students showcased their jumping rope skills, and then there was a final competition where medals were awarded to the top three girls and top three boys who jumped rope the longest without making an error.
