Five LG Senior Softball Players End Careers

Mikaylee Supak
Aly Trlicek
Becca Heinrich
Blayne Bippert
Alaney Roe

The La Grange softball team had its season prematurely ended by coronavirus precautions just days before they were set to begin district play. The Lady Leps had started the season with a 5-14 record, but had shown signs of turning things around, led by their five senior players.

We asked head coach Amanda Arlund for some thoughts on those seniors.

“All of these seniors hold a special place in my heart because they were my freshman babies when I started in La Grange. I have been able to see each one of them blossom over the four years in the program. There are so many memorable moments with each of them. The way these seniors reached out to the younger players this year was very special, they truly wanted to make the program better and I am forever grateful for them,” Arlund said.

“Mikaylee Supak is a tried and true competitor. When she stepped on the field it was go time - fierce eyes and game face. She took on a big role this year and handled it with grace. Coach Hengst and I are very proud of how her pitches progressed throughout the year. She was a leader in good times and in bad. I’m so proud of how she fought and held her composure no matter the adversity. I wish her the best of luck at Texas A&M.”

“Aly Trlicek came into her senior year ready to leave it all on the field. She has been one of our most versatile players. She literally played anywhere she needed to in order to help the team. She has a sweet swing and brought the pop to our offense many times. Aly hit at least one home run each year and was in the top four leaders for RBIs for all four years. Her presence on the field will be truly missed.”

“Becca Heinrich is an athlete. I remember her freshman year Coach Keilers and I saying we wished we had 10 of her. She works hard day in and day out. I was so happy for her when she hit a couple of home runs this year. You could see how excited she was and how happy her teammates were for her. She is a vocal leader on the field and that will be hard to replace. She will go on to do great things at the next level playing volleyball.”

“Blayne Bippert worked hard and stayed dedicated to the game in order to get her time this year. Blayne listened, hustled, and exhibited great energy in all of her four years. I appreciate the attitude that she brought to the team and her willingness to do whatever was needed. She played softball for most of her life and you could always tell how much she enjoyed it. I wish her the best of luck at Tarleton.

“Alaney Roe is our only senior to go on and play softball at the next level this year (at Kansas Wesleyan University). She understands the game very well. She has had to work extra hard to get where she is being plagued by injuries throughout her career. I hate that our time was cut short, she had some big moments this year and I know she will continue to grow in Kansas. I’m so happy for her and glad she gets to continue to play.”
