The Fayetteville baseball team won a close game and a blowout to claim the regional quarterfinals title in a playoff sweep of Bartlett last week.

The Lions edged Bartlett 8-7 Thursday, before rolling to a 15-1 win Friday.

Thursday the Lions were led by Parker Vitek, who hit a pair of doubles. Landon Urban, Aiden Wicke, Jake Kubala and Cooper Mau also had hits for Fayetteville. The Lions also drew eight walks.

Reid Gross pitched into the seventh inning. Keagan Supak came on in relief and got the game’s final out.

Friday the Lions really poured it on offensively. Vitek had two more hits, Logan Fritsch hit a double and Travis Gully hit a triple. The Lions also drew 10 walks. Gully drove in three runs and Supak scored three times.

Supak pitched four innings of one-run ball and Travis Gully pitched an inning.

The series victory vaults the Lions (14-8) into a third round series with in-county rival Round Top-Carmine (15-4). That will be a one-game series Thursday at 7 p.m. at Brenham’s Firemen’s Park.
