Dooley Sprints Fayetteville to Success in Several Sports

Fayetteville baseball player Brody Dooley has speed around the bases that makes it easy for his hitters to drive him in. Dooley was also on the basketball team and has such speed that landed him in the state track tournament as well as in the long jump.

“Brody’s really stepped up this year in all sports,” said Fayetteville head baseball coach Clint Jaeger. “In basketball, he played a huge role as our sixth man coming in there. He brought a lot of energy and aggressiveness. On the baseball diamond, he’s a courtesy runner for Logan. We need that. He’s an extra weapon on the bases. When we can add that speed, it just puts pressure on the defense. He does a heck of a job there. In track, he put a lot of time and energy into that. In the weight room, all year long, he’s put in a lot of work and it’s showing right now.” Dooley’s superior quickness has made him our choice for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.

Question: Both you and Jack Schley made it to state track. What kind of conversations did you guys have about state track?

Answer: “When everybody was out of track, it was just me and Jack. We would long jump and triple jump next to each other everyday. Keep motivating each other, work together, and really just help each other to do good at state.”

Question: Which sport do you prefer more out of track and baseball?

Answer: “I’d probably say track. I just enjoy it more. I love running and it’s just more fun to me.”

Question: You also play basketball. How many free throws have you made in a row or think you can make in a row?

Answer: “I think the most I made this year was 15 in a row.”

Question: What’s your favorite basketball movie?

Answer: “Probably Coach Carter.”

Question: What’s your preferred breakfast food?

Answer: “Waffles”

Question: Who do you have winning this year’s NBA finals between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets and why?

Answer: “I think the Nuggets will win. Their offense is just too good for the Heat to handle. I would like the Heat to win. I want to see Jimmy (Butler) get a ring.”

Question: Where was the last place you had pizza?

Answer: “I had pizza today at my house.”

Question: Do you like pineapple on pizza?

Answer: “I do not like pineapple. I don’t really like fruits.”

Question: Who’s a character you like on Star Wars?

Answer: “Chewbacca”

Question: What’s the most fun thing you remember doing in Fayetteville?

Answer: “Probably just going up to the gym and playing basketball with all my friends.”

Dooley’s strong legs have put Fayetteville athletics in the state tournament conversation across several sports.
