Fayette County track athletes spread out all over the state for regional meets Friday and Saturday, and by finishing in the top two in their events, earned their way to the state meet at UT May 11-13.

La Grange’s Austen Diggs heads to Austin in three events. He was the regional runner-up in both the 100 meters and 200 meters and also ran on the Leps 4x200 relay team (that also included CJ Davis, Clayton Knapik and Jaden Williams) which was the regional runner-up.

At the Region 4-1Ameet in Jourdanton Fayetteville’s Cole Fenhaus won the 3200 meters to advance to state. Lawson Fritsch won the pole vault to earn a state berth, and Jack Schley was second in the triple jump and Brody Dooley was second in the long jump to also punch their tickets to Austin.

In Kingsville, Schulenburg’s Meredith Magliolo won the Region 4-2A title to earn a berth. Also at that meet, Flatonia’s Kobe Burton won the shot put and Zach Charanza won the discus to qualify for state.

It is possible some third place finishers could still earn a wild card berth to state as well.
