Cason Brown Scores First Collegiate TD
Cason Brown won’t forget his first college touchdown.
It came during a career performance by the Schulenburg High School graduate.
The Angelo State University tight end caught an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter of an Oct. 17 loss to Stephen F. Austin State University. He finished with three receptions for 24 yards, all career bests.
“I was really excited,” said the starter, who did not have a reception in the previous two seasons. “It ended up being a great day.”
The touchdown was the first of the game for Angelo State. Brown said he lined up on the right side of the formation and after the snap, ran across the middle of the field.
“The linebacker actually thought I was going to block him,” he said. “The safety was coming to hit me. He couldn’t tackle me before I got into the end zone.”
“It was a perfect ball, perfect execution,” said Brown, who had another 8-yard catch later in the second quarter. “It felt great. That was an awesome experience.”
The touchdown actually was his second reception of the game. On a fourth-and-6 play during the team’s second series of the first quarter, he caught an 8-yard pass to get the first down. Angelo State was unable to convert a field goal attempt later in the drive, however.
“That was a perfect ball too,” he said of his first career reception. “The linebackers were supposed to cover me. They weren’t getting out in the flats fast enough.”

Macey Thompson is a freshman utility player for Concordia University Texas. She played for Schulenburg.

Aaliyah Hunt is a freshman guard for Bethel College (Kan.). She competed for La Grange High School.
Women’s volleyball
Graduate student Riley Fisbeck had a team-high 39 set assists for University of Alabama during a loss to Missouri. A La Grange graduate, the setter added eight digs.
Men’s soccer
Former Leopard Jose Lopez-Ocon is a freshman goalkeeper for University of Arkansas Rich Mountain.
