This week the Fayetteville boys basketball team is playing in the state basketball tournament for the first time since the 1942 and 1943 when the Lions made back-to-back trips to state. Shown here is a photo of the 1942 Lions, who were state runner-ups. That team included: Elbert Cassell, Joe Rek, Chester Cordes, Dennis Rudloff, Donald Gresser, Everett ‘Pete’ Treybig, Robert Mynar, Bernard Vasek and Melvin Wolff. The team was coached by Jesse Jochec.
