America 250 Coloring Contest Winners

Jamie Fabre of the Fayette County Judge’s Office announced the winners of the America 250 Patriotic Coloring Contest for local students. La Grange Seniors Enjoy Brewery Tour

Thirteen members of the La Grange Senior Association ventured to Shiner last month for lunch and a tour of the Spoetzel Brewery. On May 21, the group left from the Randolph Recreation Center in La Grange mid morning. Upon arrival at the brewery, they enjoyed a barbecue lunch and began their tour at 1 p.m. Attendee Dana Sternadel shared some photos and interesting information learned from the tour. Shiner Bock was first brewed as a seasonal beer. It didn’t take long for its popularity to make it a year round offering, and it now accounts for 75% of their sales.

Riley Lowe Achieves University of Arkansas’ Highest Academic Honor

The University of Arkansas is recognizing students for earning a place on the Spring 2026 Chancellor’s List, the university’s highest semester academic honor for undergraduates. Riley Lowe of La Grange joins a select group of students who have achieved a 4.0 grade-point average for the semester while completing at least 12 credit hours of coursework required for graduation..

Senior Connections Bringing Joy and Wellness to Local Seniors

Senior Connections, located in Schulenburg, is a vibrant activity center dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors 55 and up, offering free membership to people from Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca counties. With satellite locations in Flatonia and Weimar, this organization is committed to providing meaningful experiences, fostering friendships, and supporting the health and well-being of older adults across the region.
Jamie Steinhauser and Darryl O’Bryant entertained members at Flatonia Methodist Church. Everyone was singing along, tapping their feet, and loving every minute of it.

Kitten Fosters Needed

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. The shelter is closed to the public on Monday with staff onsite for animal care from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Reclaims are allowed on Monday after 10 a.m. by appointment. If you believe your lost pet may be in care, call (979) 966-0021 to confirm and learn requirements.
