Zilss Hall to Hold Open House, Neighbor’s Night Out

Zilss Hall has been undergoing some renovations to the kitchen this last month. The Winchester Area Civic Association would like to invite everyone to a open house to come view the improvements on the evening of June 14 starting at 6:30 pm. Barb and Richard Schafer will be hosting Neighbor’s Night Out. Light refreshments will be served. Come and see the renovations.

Memorial Day “Buddy” Poppy Raises Funds for Veterans

Fayette Memorial VFW Auxiliary 5254 in La Grange, will be conducting its annual distribution of “Buddy” Poppy to raise funds for it’s charitable programs on behalf of the needy and disabled veterans, and the surviving family members of deceased veterans.

County Extension Agents Attend Early Childhood Conference in Cuero

On April 29, County Extension Agents-Family & Community Health from De-Witt, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca Counties co-hosted a Multi-County/District Early Childhood Conference. The event was held at the Anne Friar Thomas Homemaking Building in Cuero, and a total of 60 area childcare providers registered for the all-day event.

Record Cruises Along the Rhine River

In April, Jackie and Steven Harker of Cistern completed a cruise along the Rhine River on the Viking Rolf. The trip began in Amsterdam and ended with a few extra days in Lucerne. The cruise included stops in The Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland. This photo was taken while on a hike in The Black Forest.

LG Seniors Receive More Than $1 Million in Scholarships

La Grange High School held its annual scholarship presentation for graduating seniors on Tuesday, May 16. The students received a combined total of $1,013,838 in scholarships. Local organizations contributed $308,384 of that amount. Non-local groups and university-sponsored scholarships amounted to $360,050 Students entering the military received $345,404 in educational aid. One scholarship was not pictured: The Gladys Krause Memorial Scholarship went to Kourtney Burton.

Fayetteville Mayor, Councilmembers Sworn In

F Despite numerous attempts by Mother Nature, Fayetteville hasn’t floated away. Mayor Mike Stroup and City Councilmen Kelly Brooks and Cade Burks were sworn in for their new terms in the City Council meeting on Monday.
