Two Speak at School Board Meeting

Two people spoke during the comment portion of the September LGISD school board meeting.

Becky Snyder addressed the board concerning two issues. The first issue was transparency. She told the board that she had noticed that the La Grange City Council provides the meeting packet that the Council members receive along with the agenda for the public. She stated, “I don’t know if the district has ever considered doing this, but it would be a great way to get more information in the hands of the stakeholders of the district.”

The second thing she addressed was a recent action of Hays CISD. She explained that Hays CISD had decided to place a poster of The Bill of Rights along side the poster of The Ten Commandments. She said that they were choosing to do this to “give students a broader understanding of not only the responsibilities by which they must choose to live, but also the important individual freedoms they enjoy as Americans or while on American soil.”

“I encourage the board to take action similar to Hays CISD and also post the Bill of Rights next to the Ten Commandments. If purchasing the posters is cost prohibitive, I will volunteer to secure the donors to make the purchase.”

Mr. Jeff Parker was the second speaker from the community. He spoke of the assassination of Charlie Kirk and what he feels may have lead to it. He said, “Tyler Robinson was not born to be an assassin. He was taught to be an assassin. How and by whom? Every one of you tonight should reflect on that sobering question. How did that young man learn to be an assassin? ...

“Forget all that misdirection about book banning. Rather, it’s about ensuring our libraries are filled with light, not darkness. You are the adults in the room. What our precious children learn and become is in your hands.”
