Red & White Gallery Features ‘Hotel Art’ Opening Saturday

“Hotel Art” opens this Saturday from 3-6 p.m. at the Red & White Gallery on Fayetteville’s Square. You may not think original art when you hear the words “hotel art” but think again! Joan Herring’s Blackbird Lodging properties have always featured great original art by local, area and Texas artists.

Having sold or remodeled multiple properties, this art collection has grown over the years.

Over 50 original pieces that formerly were displayed in the Grand Fayette Hotel, Red & White Inn, Market Street Inn, the Bird House, the Sealy House, or the 1850 House are now featured in this exhibition.

From large scale pieces to smaller gems, the selection is very diverse in size as well as media and style.

The works by over 30 artists are represented in this exhibit including Sally Maxwell, Beth Anderson, Clovis Heimsath, Mark Kohler, Linda Tibolla, Pat Johnson, Bruce Williamson, Jeri Salter, Art Stokes, and Michael Clann among others.

Joan Herring began Blackbird Lodging in 2010 and gained notoriety when the Houston Chronicle featured her properties in a full-page story in a 2012 Sunday edition.

Featuring original art by well-known artists in the lodging was seen as an upgrade from prints and posters, and the practice became a calling card for all the properties she developed or managed. She still manages her Cedar Cabins and the Red & White Inn above the Gallery on Fayetteville’s Square which has just been remodeled and refreshed with new art and furnishings.
