L a Grange’s own Rear Admiral J. Weldon Koenig celebrated his milestone 90th birthday with over 275 colleagues, friends and family Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the Frisch Auf Valley Country Club.

Weldon was born in O’Quinn, Texas on September 26, 1935 to parents John Henry Koenig and Elva (Oeding) Koenig. He attended La Grange High School, graduating in 1953. He attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He is a Distinguished NROTC Alumnus and is in the Hall of Honor at the University of Texas College of Natural Sciences.

Upon graduation from The University of Texas, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. He served 31 years and reached the esteemed position of Rear Admiral. He was granted numerous awards including three Legion of Merits during his tenure. Upon retiring, he and his wife Nancy returned to Texas and moved to the K Bar K ranch in O’Quinn, where he resides today.

Weldon’s friend, Denise Winter (Owner of Pecan Creek Animal Rescue & Sanctuary), presented him with several prominent acknowledgements in honor of his birthday, including a Proc-lamation of Fayette County by Judge Dan Mueller, a Certificate of Celebration by Governor Greg Abbott, a Texas Flag from State Representative Stan Kitzman (that was flown at the Capital on September 26), Senate Resolution No. 7 introduced by State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, a letter of congratulations from U.S. Senator John Cornyn and special greetings from UT Chancellor John Zerwas, MD, Fayette County Judge Ed Janecka and La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery among many others.

Weldon is a fundamental figure in the Fayette County community. We wish him and his family warm blessings and hope to report on his upcoming milestone birthdays.

The Koenig family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the management and staff of Frisch Auf Valley Country Club and to Mr. Coy Heinrich for the beautiful and delicious cakes. Their astounding efforts made the event a tremendous success.
