Former La Grange Leopard Matthew Miori Honored with Houston Area Coaching Award
Harold Boehnke is pleased to share that his grandson, Matthew Miori, a member of Tomball ISD’s Creekside Park Junior High football coaching staff, was part of the team honored by the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association as the “2025–26 Junior High Staff of the Year.”
The recognition was presented May 3 at the Klein Multi-Purpose Center and is awarded annually to a junior high football staff in the Greater Houston area demonstrating exceptional commitment to its program and student athletes. The staff was recognized for the “countless hours, dedication, and heart poured into developing young athletes into leaders—both on and off the field.”
Miori is the son of Kim and Tony Miori and was a graduate of La Grange High School, where he also played football.
Birthday Celebration
Pam Sheffield traveled to Houston recently to celebrate her birthday and her brother-in-law’s birthday. Her brother-in-law, Richard Vogt, was turning 60 and had a big family celebration dinner at a Japanese restaurant. Pam’s sister, Michele Vogt, planned the party which included their family members as well as Pam’s family. There were twenty one all total who enjoyed the Hibachi styled dinners. Lots of carrot cake from the Cheesecake Factory was served, which is Richard’s favorite cake.
That evening, Pam’s two daughters spent the night with her to celebrate her birthday. The next day they took her for brunch at The Union Kitchen and then went shopping for birthday gifts. They enjoyed iced coffees that afternoon before the ladies returned home. It was a fun birthday weekend.
Rain
Muldoon was blessed w;ith rain. Amounts of three and four inches fell around the area when the big rain came through. This rain has really brought on the grass and helped fill the stock tanks that were really getting dry. Cooler temperatures came in on Thursday as a front came through and more chances of rain are possible.
Church News
Stray Gathering Cowboy Church’s Men’s Breakfast is planned for this Saturday, May 16. Area men are invited to come out at 7:30 a.m. Saturday for some good breakfast, great fellowship and share some scripture. Just come out and see what this great little church has going on.
SG2C has lots going on in the near future. They have the on-going ladies’ Bible study that meets on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. The other ladies’ Bible study, Sweet Tea & Scripture will be meeting on May 26 at 6 p.m., so area ladies have a great chance to study the scriptures and make some strong Christian relationships.
SG2C is planning a big Fun Shoot at the Swenson Ranch on May 30. Clean up your shotgun and start practicing, because this is always a good time with lots of competition.
Then on the following Sunday, May 31 there will be Sunday Vittles. Start planning to come out and bring your best dish to share and prepare to eat well. This will be a fun time to share a meal and get to know some of your neighbors.
4th of July Planning
Planning for the 4th of July celebration in Muldoon is back on. This year the USA will be celebrating 250 years and the Muldoon Community Park Association is planning on coming back strong with a parade and picnic meal in the park.
Leading off the celebration will be the parade that will begin at 10 a.m. and everyone is invited to start planning something to help celebrate our nation’s birthday. Walk, ride a bike, cart or float, just come and be a part of the celebration.
On the picnic menu will be the All-American hotdogs in the park at 11 a.m. (after the parade) and everyone is invited to bring along their favorite side dish and dessert to share, so plan on making lots. There will be a free will donation to help off set the cost of everything.
There also will be a silent auction to help raise funds to take care of the park. So, if you have some extra garden veggies, home canned goods, handmade item or something that might be a nice auction item bring them on. It is always fun to bid on something fun.
The revived Muldoon Park Association is gearing up to make it the best celebration yet. Anyone interested in helping with this great event can contact Antoniette Syler-Joplin at (979) 561-6973. She will need all the help she can get since the fire department has stepped aside and is no longer helping with the celebration. Have News?
