A s part of the America 250 activities in Fayette County this year, the county’s Semiquincentennial Committee (headed up by Larry Jackson) embarked on an ambitious project to distribute 250 Liberty Trees. Thanks to an army of generous donors and volunteers, these trees were made free (and at no cost to taxpayers) – available to anyone who signed up for them. The trees were distributed at the recycling center on two weekends earlier this month, along with fencing, t-posts, a bag of mulch and a beautiful metal medallion designating the trees as Liberty Trees. We asked readers to send us pictures of their trees. Here’s some images of this lasting legacy project. Email us a photo of where you planted your Liberty Tree to jeff@fayettecountyrecord.com. We’ve love to share it in the newspaper.
