Enjoy Spring Break at Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill
Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host their second annual Spring Break on the Bluff, a weeklong series of hands-on historic activities, from Saturday, March 9 through Sunday, March 17. Held daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors will have the chance to engage in living history and crafting activities to celebrate the changing seasons and take a break from work and school.
“Spring Break is the perfect opportunity to explore what the historic sites have to offer” says sites Educator Jenny Townzen. “Not only can visitors enjoy our nature trails and breathtaking views, but they can also step back in time to experience the community’s local heritage through our planned historical programs.”
This year’s program lineup features an exciting array of activities, including building birdhouses, mastering the art of wool dyeing, crafting root beer and ice cream from traditional recipes, and enjoying a round or two of German Texan-style bowling. “Each day is a unique activity,” Townzen explains. “So, visitors can pick and choose their visit (or attend multiple days!) and learn about different aspects of life in the 19th century.” To demonstrate these programs, the sites utilize the expertise of dedicated staff and local volunteers, who showcase their skills as cooks, gardeners, bookbinders, embroiderers, and more to enrich the visitor experience and foster a deeper appreciation for crafts from the past.
Spring Break on the Bluff promises a week filled with immersive activities and outdoor experiences for visitors of all ages. Programs are included with admission to the sites; Friends members and children aged 5 and under enjoy free admission, while students can enter for $2, seniors for $3, and adults for $5.
