Community Asked to Help Preserve Carmine History at Cleaning Event
It’s Spring. That means it is time to do a little sprucing up at the Carmine Museum and Visitor Center. Did you know that Carmine had an orchestra? Did you know that Carmine had several citizens serve in WWII? Do you want to see your teacher in the RT-C yearbooks? Come out and see the lovingly curated artifacts displayed at the museum and lend a hand with some dusting and cleaning. Light refreshments will be provided.
This cleaning day will be held on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. - noon. RSVP or just show up, as every hand helps. All ages are welcome. For questions contact Courtney Kieke at (512) 983-1115.
RT-C School News
Round Top-Carmine baseball team hosts Snook at 5 p.m. for a double-header on Wednesday, April 15. RT-C hosts Burton on April 21 at 5:30 p.m. It will be Senior Appreciation Day. The team plays in Burton on April 24 at 5:30 p.m.
The Area Track meet is at Fayetteville on April 16.
Seventh and Eighth grades take the STAAR English I and II tests on April 15. Science 8 STAAR and Biology EOC is April 21. Social Studies 8 STAAR and US History EOC is on April 23.
April 24 is a student holiday and professional development day for staff.
The last day of classes will be on May 15, with dismissal at 12:30.
Carmine Lions Club
Carmine Lions Club will have its regular meeting on April 14 at Windmill Ranch Lodge beginning at 6 p.m.
Carmine 42 Club
The Carmine 42 Club Domino club met on April 1 at JW’s Steakhouse in Carmine for its monthly match. After eating a delicious lunch, eight interesting games of 42 were played.
The high-scoring partners were Myrt Meinkowsky and Betty Porter with a score of 2076 and they played one hand of 84. The next highest score was achieved by Jeanette Schoenst and Carol Naegeli with a score of 1951, and they played a hand of 84. Partners Marlene Waak and Linda Mattocks successfully played one hand of 84 and one hand of 126. Edith Flinn and Avalda Pohl also played eight games of 42.
Everyone enjoyed the challenging domino games and fellowship. This group will meet again on May 6 at 11 a.m.
Bingo in Carmine
The next Bingo at the Carmine Hall will be on Friday, May 1. Doors open at 4 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. Food and drinks are available for sale.
It is located at 300 N Hauptstrasse in Carmine. Twelve regular games and two cover-all games are played. It benefits the Carmine Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein for renovations to the historic building.
Mobile Food Pantry
The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church parking lot on Saturday, April 18 from 10 to 11 a.m. It is located near the intersection of FM 1291 and FM 2145 near Ledbetter.
The food distribution will be drive-through. Clients need to clean out the back seats, trunks, and truck beds to make room for the boxed food. It is for Fayette County residents.
MLLC News
Senior Citizens meet on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the Mission & Ministry Building. Meals must be picked up by 11:30 a.m.
AA meeting is Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
The Women of the ELCA Western Cluster Spring Happening is April 18 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbus.
Worship with Holy Communion, observing the Third Sunday of Easter is April 19 with the Rev. Donna Wright serving as the guest pastor.
Recycle Trailer
The recycling trailers are at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from 1 - 4 p.m.
Clean milk cartons should be kept separate from the other No. 2 plastics. They also accept clean No. 1 plastic bottles and jugs. Note that numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 plastics and plastic bags are not accepted.
Also accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, all colors glass, steel food cans and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload.
