ArtWalk Showcases Regional Talent on the Square
ArtWalk, ARTS annual art festival held last weekend, served as a vibrant showcase for regional talent, filling the square with a curated collection of nature-inspired copper sculptures, flower-adorned hats, and a menagerie of handthrown pottery vases and teapots re-imagined as woodland animals.
Visitors Mary Ott from Bellville and her friend Jerry Franco from Houston purchased a few carefully chosen items. They also checked out the exhibit in ARTS Ross Gallery and the Red & White Gallery across the street. “We’ve always enjoyed this show and find something special every time we come. We haven’t missed it in years.”
Self-taught copper artist Gerald Tobola lives between Round Top and Shelby and has used the ancient metalworking process “Repoussé and chasing” to create beautiful copper leaves and lamp shades for over 25 years. Every piece is made from scratch, with color added by removing the surface shine of the copper with acid so it “takes” color.

Potter artist Christy Crews Dunn resides just outside of Fayetteville and creates wheel-thrown pottery that is sculpturally altered and masterfully hand-carved without molds or templates. She majored in art at Longwood University in Virginia and has been a potter for over 40 years.
Dunn featured artisan pottery, watercolors and her pen and ink pieces at ArtWalk for the first time this year. She may be reached at christycrews-dunn@ gmail.com.
Local resident Dorothy Shelby, a 70-year old selftaught primitive artist, musician and pastor, picked up a paintbrush at the age of 64. Election
The unofficial election results (decided by a slim two-vote margin) show Todd Campbell winning over John Heimsath for the Fayetteville City Council Place 3 seat.
Art Competition
Deadline submissions for the competition, “America the Beautiful,” ARTS national art competition and gallery exhibition has been extended to May 15. Selected works will be featured in a juried exhibit at ARTS Ross Gallery. Over $6,000 in awards will be presented. Altar Society Fundraiser
The ladies of St. John Altar Society are inviting everyone to their annual fundraiser this Saturday from 9 a.m. -12 p.m. in the parish hall at St. John Catholic Church. Over 27 prizes are up for grabs in the raffle, including a quilt as first prize. Enjoy a country store, hotdogs and sandwiches. Come by and pick up homemade baked goods for mom while supporting a great cause.
Picking Park
Bluegrass musicians are picking this Saturday on the square for Picking Park. They get together the second Saturday of each month from January- November. Beginners play in the old firehouse and seasoned players hang in the gazebo. Grab a to-go bite and brew from Orsak’s or Joe’s and enjoy the music that flows from 2 p.m. until everyone’s ready to call it a day.
Polka Performance
This Sunday from 2-5 p.m., the M&M Playboys will feature polka music at the Fayetteville Community Center and Performance Theater on the square at 105 W. Fayette St. Kick up your heels and enjoy a dance steeped in the deep traditions of our community. Admission is free and beverages are available.

Grand Opening
Fayette Savings Bank has officially moved to the square. Join in the Grand Opening on Tuesday, May 12 at 212 W. Fayette St. from 4-6:30 p.m. The Greater Fayetteville Chamber will host the ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.
Annual Shrimp Boil
The Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus Council 3168 are holding their 26th Annual Fayetteville/Ellinger KC Shrimp Boil under the pavilion at St. John’s Catholic Church next Friday, May 15. Happy Hour runs from 6:30 - 7:30. Food will be served at 7:30 p.m.
The Airplane Band will be rocking the house while you enjoy shrimp and all the fixings, ice cold beer, a Card Gun Raffle and a silent auction. Look for flyers all around town. St. Paul Lutheran
St. Paul Lutheran holds services on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Services are recorded every week, rotating among four Shared Lutheran Ministry churches and posted on the Facebook page for the Shared Lutheran Ministry of Fayette County. Services are also featured on KTIM 89.1 Sundays at noon.
St. John the Baptist Catholic St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville holds Mass Saturdays at 5 p.m., and Sunday’s at 10 a.m.

Fayetteville Brethren
Worship services at Fayetteville Brethren are held on the second, third and fourth Saturday of every month at 10 a.m. An adult Bible Study is held before the worship service from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
