A memorial service for Byron Wayne Compton is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. The family will meet privately at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Byron Wayne Compton passed away Oct. 8, 2022 in Austin. He was born in Ft. Worth on July 31, 1955 to Byron Compton and Shirley Moore Compton. He married Diane Strong on Jan. 8, 1983 in North Richland Hills and they later had two children, daughter, Hailey and son, Bryon.

Funeral services for Terry Davis, 87 of Giddings, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Pastor Robert Tiner and Pastor Josh Hahn officiated. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276. The chilly Fairfield, Iowa landscape became a little warmer on June 12, 1935, when baby Terry Richard Davis was welcomed into the world by his five siblings and parents, Dwight and Nevera (Rupe) Davis.

David Alan Berger, 60, of La Grange, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022 after a long fight with cancer. David was born in La Grange on Nov. 26, 1961, the son of Rosalie (Muras) and Melroy Berger of La Grange, one of four children.

Richard “Ricky” Alan Meinholdt, 54, passed away on Oct. 5, 2022 after a long 14 year battle with melanoma cancer. A visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022 with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022 at Waldeck Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6915 Waldeck Church Lane, Ledbetter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ricky was born on Sept. 30, 1968 to Clarence and Elizabeth (Borchgardt) Meinholdt in Brenham. He was baptized on Nov. 24, 1968 and confirmed on March 27, 1983, married Kelli Vavra on June, 22, 1991 all at Salem Lutheran Church in Brenham.

Funeral services for Wallace A. Hobratschk will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Chuch in La Grange with interment to follow at the Waldeck Cemetery in Waldeck. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Wallace Hobratschk, 83, passed away on Oct. 7, 2022 in La Grange. Wallace was born in La Grange on Jan. 5, 1939 to Ernest Hobratschk and Annette Pietsch Hobratschk. He graduated from La Grange High School and later married Verlene Wolff on Jan. 21, 1961 at the Waldeck Lutheran Church. Wallace served 9 years in the Unites States Army and then pursued his career as a Business Manager/Business Owner in the data processing industry. Wallace served in the United States Army Reserves for nine years and was a member of the American Legion Post 276 in Giddings. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and several organizations including the Lion’s Club, Son’s of Herman, and Lee County Water. Wallace was a leader in Boys Scouts, coached baseball and umpired for a local Minor League/Semi Pro organization with teams such as Warda A’s and Winchester Rifles. He bowled, sang in the choir and served as an officer for the Saengerrunde German Club. Wallace also enjoyed animals, fishing and hunting. He was a wonderful husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed. Wallace is survived by his wife of 61 years, Verlene Hobratschk; children, Rodney Hobratschk (Robin) of Northlake and Robin Steffek (Michael) of Bertram; one sister, Genelda Pavlik (Robert) of Katy; grandchildren, Michael Hobratschk (Samantha), Ian Hobratschk, Ricky Gonzales. Jr. (Kim), Ashley Gonzales, Taylor Gonzales and Micaela Steffek; and two great grandchildren, Audrey and Evie Gonzales. Wallace is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Annette Hobratschk and sister and brother-in-law, Audrey Symmank (Earl).

Gladys was born in Swiss Alp on Nov. 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Dora (Schlottmann) and Edmund Koether. She married Eugene L. Mach on Oct. 7, 1950. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in La Grange. They raised two children together, a son, Mark and a daughter, Elizabeth. They were married for 66 years, until his death on March 16, 2016. Gladys attended and graduated from Schulenburg High School. Along with raising children, Gladys worked for Priesmeyers in Sweeny for 18 years in Sales. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and also working in her garden. She loved a drive in the countryside, taking in all of God’s beauty and also playing bingo. One of her favorite past-times was putting together photo albums; she made too many to count! She is survived by her son, Mark Mach and wife, Barbara of La Grange.; son-in-law, Bill Dehnert of Beeville; grandchildren: Stephen Mach, Shelli Tooley and husband, Keegan, Eric Dehnert and wife, Hannah and Aaron Dehnert and wife, Georgie; great-grandchildren: Theresa and Dominic Tooley and Margot Dehnert. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene L. Mach; daughter, Liz Dehnert and brother, Leon Koether and wife, Lillian. Pallbearers are Keegan Tooley, Eric Dehnert, Aaron Dehnert, Stephen Mach, James Lingo, and Butch Gaddes. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronald Koether, Donald Koether, Larry Koether and Mike Koether. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange. Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Franklin St., La Grange, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery.

Mildred Lucille (Reichle) Warnken, 99, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022 to join her husband, Manfred (Shank), of 69 years, in Gods’ everlasting peace. Lucille was born in La Grange on Dec. 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Alfred Reichle and Lillie (Hengst) Reichle.

William “Bill” Gayle Sagebiel, 92, of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. Bill was born on July 11, 1930, in Temple to the late Clemens Edward and Ruth Lee (Gayle) Sagebiel. He graduated in 1948 from Temple High School and attended Temple Junior College. Bill then transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, graduating with a B.A. in Economics in 1953. After college Bill served his country honorably during the Korean conflict in the United States Army. He met the love of his life, Vernell Lousie Buchhorn, right before he went overseas. Upon his return from deployment in December of 1955, he knew she was the one and married her on Jan. 1, 1956 in Walburg. The couple was blessed to have shared sixty-six years of marriage as husband and wife. Bill and Vernell made their home in Houston where he worked as a Financial Analyst for Gulf Oil. Following the merger of Gulf Oil and Chevron, he retired from Chevron in 1986 with thirty years of dedicated service. In 1989, Bill and Vernell moved to La Grange where he worked for LCRA until his retirement. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where Bill served on the Board of Elders along with the Board of Stewardship. During their tenure in Houston, Bill also volunteered his time with St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where he held a position on the Board of Finance.
