Zapalac
Sheron Ann (Askew) Zapalac, 74, of La Grange, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022.
Sheron was born on Dec. 31, 1947, in San Antonio, where she was raised by her mother, Ruth, and step-father, Alfred Marnock.
Sheron married James “Jim” Edward Zapalac on Oct. 25, 1975, in San Antonio. After living in San Antonio for several years, they decided to move to her husband’s hometown of La Grange, in 1978. Together they raised a son, Russell and a daughter, Julie. They recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
Sheron enjoyed staying active in the community; belonging to the Daughters of the Americas at Sacred Heart Church, and also supported the Humane Society and the American Cancer Society. Along with her civic undertakings, Sheron was very much family oriented, and loved spending time with family and friends and her pup, Mazie. She also loved going to the beach and collecting shells and glass globes on trips to the West Coast. Sheron for a time was the Manager and Co-Owner of “Especially For You,” a boutique on the town square next to D&Z Mans Shop. After the store closed, she then went on to work as a capital credit clerk for Fayette Electric Company until she retired.
She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Edward Zapalac; daughter, Julie and husband, Matthew Jones of Round Top; son, Russell Zapalac and wife, Erin of Austin; and granddaughter, Vivienne Zophia Zapalac.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Guy Askew.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022. A private Inurnment with immediate family will be held after.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of La Grange or the Court Annunciation No. 1962 Catholic Daughters of Americas Scholarship Fund.
