Wolff
Nelvira Ida Braun Wolff, affectionately known as Nellie or Granny, was born on May 29, 1928 in Round Top, to Alfred and Thusnelda Peters Braun, with roots in Germany. Nellie was a beacon of love and strength in the community. It is with both a heavy heart and a spirit of gratitude that we announce her peaceful passing on June 19, 2024, in the town of Industry.
Nellie was baptized on Aug. 12, 1928 in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine. She was confirmed in faith on March 19, 1942 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. She graduated from Round Top-Carmine High School, as the 2nd class of 12-15 members 74 years ago where she was fond of learning and enjoyed playing volleyball. She attended elementary school in Round Top at the current site of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where Nellie and her three younger sisters Ira Bell, Jenell and Fay walked 1 1/2 miles to and from school each day.
Nellie fell in love with Burnie because he was “a nice young man who liked country music” like she did. Burnie and Nellie were married on Aug. 3, 1946 at Round Top Church. They were married for 74 years when Burnie passed away in December of 2020. Nellie and Burnie had two boys, Larry and James. Nellie’s heart swelled with pride for her boys, and her joy only multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Beyond the hearth of her home, Nellie’s passion for life extended to the fields and pastures of the farm. Nellie and Burnie had always enjoyed the life of farming. When they were first married, they grew corn, hay, and cotton. They later ranched and had cattle. Burnie and Nellie also had a large garden.
Nellie’s hands, ever so skilled, were a testament to her love for cooking and baking. Her kitchen was a haven of heavenly aromas and warmth, where family and friends gathered to savor her sumptuous creations including her molasses and chocolate chip cookies. Her recipes were a legacy of love, passed down with each delicious morsel. Nellie’s home was not just a dwelling but a place where memories were tenderly crafted and cherished.
Nellie relished the opportunity to attend class reunions, where she shared stories and laughter with those who had walked alongside her in her formative years. She was an active member of the Women of the Church of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 70 years and was also an active member in the Hermann Sons Organization of Round Top. Her friendships were deep and enduring, especially her and Burnie’s treasured bond with George and Leona Wagner. Together, they traveled, and forged memories that would last a lifetime.
Nellie is survived by her sisters Jenell Jaster of Georgetown and Fay Graeber of Austin, son Larry and wife, Doris of Round Top; James and wife, Florence of Independence; four grandchildren: Dedra Wolff; Erin Feldmann and husband E.B.; Kristy Cochran and husband, Jerry; Jennifer Anderson and husband, William; nine great-grandchildren; Troop, Storm, and Dutch Feldmann; Elizabeth, JD and Jacob Cochran; Ellie, Kaylee and Clara Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, sister, Ira Bell Bathe, brothersin- law Max Bathe and Clarence Jaster, and sister and brother-in-law Alice and Reg Hackemack.
