Laverne Willie Mae (Vasut) Wittmann, 89, of La Grange, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023.

Laverne was born in Fayette County on Feb. 12, 1934, the daughter of Fred and Helen (Ritter) Vasut.

She met the love of her life, Leroy Wittmann when Laverne was working as a “Candy Striper” at the La Grange Hospital. They were married on Oct. 6, 1951 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Grange and were blessed with 68 years of marriage.

Laverne will be forever remembered for her strong faith in her God, and as a strong, compassionate, loving and fiercely independent woman. If one had to name her highest achievement in life, it would be nursing her family and friends back to health. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

In the end, friends and family came from all over to say their goodbyes, and to thank her for all the help, advice, and inspiration that she brought to their lives. Laverne blessed her family and friends with 89 years of love and memories that are priceless and will never be forgotten, always cherished. Her family will also always remember Laverne being the happiest when she spent time outdoors.

She is survived by her son, Curtis Wittmann and wife, Kelly of DeSoto; her grandsons: Bradley Synnott and girlfriend, Shirley Behrens of La Grange; Blake Wittmann and wife, Brittany of Weatherford; and Adam Wittmann of DeSoto; and great grandchildren: Evansley, Tripp, and Witt Wittmann; and Bradley Leroy Synnott.

Laverne was preceded in death by her father, Fred Vasut and loving mother, Helen; stepfather, Robert Bordovsky; son, Leroy Charles, Jr.; beloved daughter, Cindy Synnott and son-in-law, Tommy Synnott; and her forever love, Leroy Wittmann, husband of 68 years.
