Nellie Ruth (Miller) Wessels, of West Point, passed away on her 89th birthday and 70th wedding anniversary, Monday, June 27, 2022.

Nellie, who went by her middle name Ruth, was born in Bend, Texas on June 27, 1933, the daughter of the late Nellie Ann (Cook) and late Raymond Miller.

At the age of 19, on her birthday, she married Eugene Wessels on June 27, 1952 in Elm Creek, Texas.

Ruth worked joyfully as a homemaker and was a loving mother to her four children. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and playing tennis! Ruth was also active in her community and church, participating in Women of the Church at St Peter Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, American Foreign Legion Auxiliary and Sons of Herman, Lodge No. 238.

As she has had happy milestones on her birthday, Ruth also is at rest and in peace with her Lord as she celebrates her final birthday.

She is survived by her husband Eugene Wessels of West Point; children: Fred Wessels and wife, Gloria, of Danbury, Sylvia Wessels Hocutt and husband David, of Angleton, Gary Wessels of West Point, and Tina Wessels Shafer and husband, David of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren: Melissa Wessels Wheeler and husband, Jason; Erica Wessels Nunley; Robert Hocutt and wife, Silvia; Cosette Venesky and husband, Andrew; and Kameryn McLaughlin; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Calvin Loern Miller; sister, Ray La Velle Alumbaugh; and grandchild, Frederick Wessels.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral Services were held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 640 Prairie Valley Rd., West Point, at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022. Burial followed at Prairie Valley Church Cemetery in West Point, adjacent to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
