Weikel
Elmer Charlie Weikel, 91, of La Grange, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022.
Elmer was born in La Grange on May 26, 1930, the son of Elmer and Irene (Oelschlegal) Weikel.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he had a pen pal by the name of Agnes Ermis. When he was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to La Grange, he looked her up and it was love at first sight. They married on June 28, 1953 in Houston. They were blessed to have shared 68 years of marriage together.
Elmer and Agnes lived in Corpus Christi for the first couple of years. Then they moved back to Houston where he did remodeling of homes and built cabinets. Elmer and his son formed a company, Weikels Woodworks, which his son continues to run.
After retirement, Elmer enjoyed being outdoors driving his tractor, four-wheel Mule and raising cattle. He could often be seen checking and repairing fences and trimming trees. Elmer was a member of
Elmer was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn and a member of the American Legion Post 102 in La Grange.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Weikel; son, Stephen Weikel and daughter, Lisa George both of Houston; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Weikel and niece, Linda Caldwell of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene Weikel; sister, Joyce Burrows; brother-in-law, Lee Burrows and nephew, Larry Caldwell.
Visitation will be held be held prior to the funeral service on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. A holy rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m.
Funeral Services will be held at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Burial will follow at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
