Weber
Fred Otto Weber, a long time Austin resident and a man who deeply loved his family, passed away peacefully on Dec. 21, 2025, in Austin at the age of 101 years. Born on the family farm on June 5, 1924, in Fayette County, Fred’s life was a testament to hard work, dedication to family, and service to God.
Fred was the loving husband of Vernell, who predeceased him after 62 years of marriage. Together, they built a family founded on love and respect. Though his daughter Susan has also passed, Fred’s legacy continues through his son Steve and his wife Susan, his son-in-law David (and his partner Rhonda), and his granddaughters Dana (and her husband Will), Alisha, and Caitlyn (and her husband Brett). The joy of his later years was further enriched by his great-grandchildren, Kannon, Jett, Susan, and Stella. Fred’s brother Curvey and sister-in-law Jean, along with a host of nieces and nephews, will remember his guidance and warmth. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters, and their spouses, all of whom laid the familial groundwork for the values he held so dear. He was a part of the “Greatest Generation”.
For over 40 years, Fred worked diligently for Superior Dairies and Borden, retiring as a Production Superintendent. His professional dedication was only matched by his commitment to his faith. A devout Christian, Fred was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for more than 75 years, where he served as an usher during Sunday services.
Fred’s interests and hobbies revolved around his property in Bastrop County, where he raised cattle for more than thirty five years. He also developed a passion for Texas sports teams, such as supporting his beloved Houston Astros, cheering on the Texas Longhorn sports teams, and always finding time to hunt and fish, where his love for the outdoors was fulfilled.
One of Fred’s most memorable moments was on his 90th birthday when he threw out the first pitch at a Houston Astros game, a memory that the entire family has cherished.
He always looked forward to the annual Weber reunion held in Round Top, Texas in April, where he could visit with all members of the family which he dearly loved.
Fred Weber’s life was one of impact, leaving a mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. He was a man who loved to strike up conversations with strangers and make new friends. His was a life lived with intention, a life that embodied the Christian virtues of love, patience, and kindness.
A celebration of life for Fred was held on Jan. 5, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, and Fred was laid to rest at Forest Oaks Cemetery after a brief graveside service.
