Waldine Helen (Meyer) Fruge’
Waldine Helen (Meyer) Fruge’, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022.
Waldine was born in Glidden on Oct. 30, 1938, the daughter of the late Helen (Zajicek) and Walter Meyer.
Waldine attended school in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1958. In School she was active as a Drum Major, Twirler and Basketball star. She is the widow of Larry Dugon Fruge’. They married in Columbus onAug. 23, 1958. Together they raised three daughters: Cheryl, Allison, and Laura, and three sons: Michael, Brian, and Dwight. Waldine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, who cherished family gatherings. She enjoyed time with family and friends and cooking for everyone.
She was an avid gardener who would spend countless hours tending to her flowers, vegetable garden and fruit trees. Plants were abundant all around the house. She enjoyed the many RV trips her and Larry where able to take by themselves and with friends, seeing so much of the country, including Alaska and Canada. She loved to sew and quilt, distributing her work freely. She had a love for dance. She and Larry would frequent many of the local dancehalls or attend dances where her brother played in a Polka band. She loved her monthly bus trip to Louisiana to the casinos to play the slot machines with her lady friends from Fayetteville and surrounding areas.
She was a member of Saint John’s Catholic Church where she was very active in her commitment and service the Lord and the church.
She worked as a secretary at Highport Manufacturing in Highland for 16 plus years, until she retired.
She is survived by her two daughters: Cheryl Hall and husband, Mike of Mont Belvieu and Allison Thomas and husband, Ron of Baytown; three sons: Michael Fruge’and wife, Jodi of Spicewood; Brian Fruge’ of San Antonio; and Dwight Fruge’and wife, Sherri of Richmond; two brothers: Dale Meyer and wife, Sally of Brenham and Richard Meyer and wife, Tillie Ann of Columbus; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Larry Dugon Fruge’; daughter, Laura Bolton and grandchild, Ashley Broussard.
All services will be held on Tuesday, Dec 20, 2022 at St. John Catholic Church in Fayetteville. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at this time. Reciting of the Holy Rosary will begin at 11:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held starting at 12 noon. A private burial will be held at a later date.
