Liane (Leona) Hoffmann Wagner, 98 passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, in Brenham. She was born on March 7, 1926, in Berlin, Germany, then coming to Round Top in 1947 after WWII. Liane was the first official Texas war bride. She married George Wagner July 18, 1947. They were married for 55 years until his passing in 2002.
Liane wanted to accomplish many things in her life, this began with teaching herself English by reading magazines and listening to songs on the radio. When retiring in her 80s, she worked part time at Honey Bunny’s. Also, she and George became known as the “cedar elves” working together at Wagner’s Woodcraft in Round Top. Another accomplishment was her talent for creativity when she knitted, crocheted, sewed garments and became a fabulous baker. She was very knowledgeable about sports, especially tennis and football. Traveling, watching stage performances and playing slots gave her a lot of pleasure.
Liane is survived by two daughters, Georgia Hartley of La Grange and Diane and her husband Jim Stanton of Pearland; three grandchildren, JP and wife Carla Hartley of La Grange, Jessica and her husband Stephen Kendrick of Pearland, Allison and her husband Chad Peterson of Pearland; seven great-grandchildren, Lyria, Cooper and Holden Hartley of La Grange, Liam and Claire Kendrick of Pearland and Connor and Charlie Peterson of Pearland; and a very dear friend, Scotty Lynch of Brenham.
