Velasquez

Joshua Aaron Velasquez, known affectionately as Josh by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024 in Kyle. Born on June 20, 1997 in Austin, Josh’s life was a beacon of joy and intelligence that illuminated the lives of everyone around him.

Josh was a proud graduate of La Grange High School, class of 2015. He was known for his sharp wit and remarkable analytical mind. He had a love for history, video gaming, anime, and baseball. Despite his varied interests, the brightest part of his life was spending time with his cherished daughter Isabella Velasquez. His love for her was evident in the many games of hide and seek, tea parties, and dress-up they shared.

Josh is survived by his beloved daughter, Isabella (Bella) Velasquez of La Grange; his loving mother and dedicated step-father, Rebecca and Gene Carson of La Grange; father, Charles Velasquez and wife Sandra of Pettytown; his brother, Keaton Norman and fiance Cameron Joost of Savannah, Ga.; brother, Charles Velasquez and wife Keiundra of Seabrook; nephews, Christian and Alexander Velasquez of Hutto; and grandparents, Vickie and Joey Gooch of Freyburg. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Also mourning Josh’s loss is his friend and Bella’s mother, Mary Matula, who shared many of Josh’s adventures.

Preceded in death are his paternal grandparents, Lee and Celia Velasquez of San Marcos, and his brother, Matthew Velasquez of Hutto.

Josh’s jovial nature was contagious, he never met a stranger and he could effortlessly bring laughter and joy to any room he entered. His humor was a gift that he shared generously, never failing to lift the spirits of those around him. Equally admirable was his desire to help others. Josh would go out of his way to lend a hand, offer advice or simply be there for someone in need. His kindness and willingness to support his fellow man were hallmarks of his character.

As an intelligent and analytical thinker, Josh approached life with a unique perspective that often led to insightful conversations and deep discussions. Those who knew him appreciated his ability to dissect complex topics and present them in an understandable and relatable way. He was quick with a joke or a prank and often brought joy to his family and friends.

Josh’s absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His laughter, kindness, and his brilliant mind have left an indelible mark on the world. Though his time was short, the memories he created will continue to inspire and comfort us.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Cross Point Community Church in La Grange at 11:30 a.m., with a meal to follow in the fellowship hall.
