Hall Ellen Celestine (Halfmann) Vasek, 92, of Frelsburg entered peacefully into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1930, in Frelsburg to Anton and Vlasta (Kulhanek) Halfmann. Ellen was the second child of nine siblings.

OnApril 15, 1952, she was united in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony to Charles Vasek at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg by Fr. Edward Geiser. They were blessed with four children.

Ellen was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society in Frelsburg. She enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, baking, canning and quilting. Most importantly, Ellen loved spending time with her family including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Schramm and husband Herman; and Betty Kovar and husband Erwin of Fayetteville; two sons, William “Billy” Vasek and wife Clara; and Stephen Vasek of Frelsburg; seven grandchildren, Sherri (Lloyd) Jurecka, Sara Schramm, Herman C. Schramm, Michele (Kirk) Berger, Angela (Matt) Taylor, Stacey (Kyle) Kuskie and Marlin (Devin) Vasek; and eleven great-grandchildren. Ellen is also survived by her siblings, Gladys Stolle, Virginia Faldyn, Joe Halfmann, Raymond Halfmann and wife Sharon, Janice Kasmiersky and husband A.K., Dianne Seidel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Charles; brother Anton Halfmann, Jr.; sister Jurline Huebel; brothers-in-law, Albert Huebel, Leon Stolle, Joe Faldyn, Jr. and Edwin Seidel; sister-in-law Margie Halfmann; and nephew John Huebel.

Visitation was held on Monday, May 1, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. A parish prayer service and rosary followed at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg officiated by Fr. Bob Knippenberg. Visitation at church was from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Burial took place in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Pallbearers were Herman C. Schramm, Marlin Vasek, Lloyd Jurecka, Kirk Berger, Matt Taylor and Kyle Kuskie.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and T.L.C. for the special care given to Ellen. Also thank you to the many friends and relatives who stopped by to visit her throughout the years.
