Vasek
Anton Thomas Vasek, “Tom,” 90, of La Grange, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022. Tom was born in La Grange on March 2, 1932, the son ofAnton E. Vasek and Ludmilla (Bordovsky) Vasek. He graduated from La Grange High School in 1951. He later joined the Coast Guard for a brief time of service.
Tom married Angela Agnes Kubecka on April 7, 1956 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum, Texas. They were happily married for 56 years, and they raised two children, son, Barry and daughter, Laurann.
Tom worked in the wholesale sales Industry at Liggett and Myers for 32 years. After he retired from sales. Tom became a Century 21 Realtor in La Grange, which he greatly enjoyed. He was a member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. Church and Service were important to him. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the KJT. Tom was a sponsor and mentor to men in the Alcoholics Anonymous program. In his spare time and especially during his retirement, he enjoyed working in his extensive gardens, building two Japanese water fountains the ran into a Koi Pond in his back yard that was enjoyed by all. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fresh and saltwater fishing, and traveling.
He is survived by his son, Barry Vasek and wife, Debbie of Austin; sister, Mary Jane Darnell of San Antonio; grandson, Andrew Bartus and his wife, Laura of Murietta, Calif.; four grandchildren: Margaret, Christopher, Michael, and Peter Bartus of Murrieta, Calif.; nieces: Lisa Kana, Meg Brown, Allison Groppe, Jennifer Darnell, Belinda Henderson, Cindy Smith and Jodi Kubecka Smith; and nephews: Jonathan Darnell, Eddie Kubecka, Kevin Kubecka, Chris Kubecka, and Andy Kubecka.
Tom is survived by special cousins: A.J. and Rosie Hrbacek; Virginia and Ed Leech; and Carol and Rick Peters. Also, Tom is survived by his dear friend and companion Bea Rost.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Angela Agnes (Kubecka) Vasek; daughter, Laurann Vasek; brother, Daniel Vasek; sister, Margaret Wood; sister-in-law, Martha Vasek; brothers-in-law, James Darnell, David Murray, and John Wood.
Visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl, La Grange. Family received friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Holy Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. following Visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 126 Plum Church Rd., Plum, at 11 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2022. Burial followed at 12:30 p.m. at Hostyn Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, 936 FM 2436, La Grange. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association at https://www.heart.org/en/getinvolved/ ways-to-give/mail-adonation.
