Trlica
William Leroy “Bill” Trlica went to his Heavenly home on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at his home in La Grange at the age of 93.
Bill was born on April 5, 1931, in Smithville, to William and Marie (Sabrsula) Trlica. He was baptized on May 17, 1931, by Rev. Joseph Barton at Czech Moravian Brethren Church in Kovar. He was confirmed on Jan. 1, 1945, at the First Presbyterian Church in Smithville by Rev. Elwood Parker. Bill attended Smithville High School where he was a member of the class of 1951. At the age of 18, Bill had the misfortune of losing his fingers from both hands in an accident at the Smithville Metal Products Company.
Bill married Marilyn Janice Bollmeyer on Aug. 31, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in La Grange by Rev. H. T. Flachmeier. Together, he and Marilyn made their first home on a 100-acre farm near Rosanky. Several years later they moved to Angleton where they pursued careers and raised their two daughters. After residing in Angleton, Bill and Marilyn moved to La Grange in 1995, to spend their retirement years. They were members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. While residing in Angleton, Bill worked for Stroud Civil Engineering and Surveying Company where he was promoted to party chief and office draftsman. He worked over a period of 40 years in the same profession.
Bill had a beautiful, deep voice and enjoyed singing in the church choir. In La Grange, he maintained the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Cemetery for four years. An avid Dallas Cowboy fan, Bill also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, dancing, gardening, and mastered barbecuing. At the age of 89, he wrote a book about his life.
Bill is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a good companion to all of the family pets! He is survived by his two daughters: Merrilee Zedan of La Grange and Ramona Tschaar (Alex) of Cat Spring; three grandchildren: George Zedan (Christy) of Cypress; Monica Garner of Sweeny; and April Day of Burleson; five great grandchildren: Garrett, Mason, Maddox, Grayson and Major; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Trlica; parents, William and Marie Trlica; in-laws, Robert and Julia Bollmeyer; brother, Marvin J. Trlica; brothers-in-law, David H. Bollmeyer and Robert L. Bollmeyer; and sistersin- law, Micki Bollmeyer and Doris White.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange. Bill’s family will be receiving visitors from 4 - 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Franklin St., La Grange, on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at La Grange City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Roland Guettler, Randy Stroud, Terry Stroud, Dennis Zbranek, Terry Blaha and Randy Albers. Honorary Pallbearers are David Lee Bollmeyer and Lance H. Bollmeyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JOL Hospice Healthcare or to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
