Stewart

Arie Jynnyea McGuire Stewart was born on Nov. 15, 2005 in Houma, La. to Shatondra McGuire and Michael Stewart. On Sunday, June 23, 2024, Arie closed her eyes for the final time.

Arie was a native of Houma, La. and a resident of La Grange. She will be laid to rest in Houma with her family later this summer. She is survived by her mother, Shatondra; her three brothers, Dei-John (Jolynn), TreMon (Jazz), and Teddy Womack; her sisters, Bella Womack, Ladaigia Stewart, and Nyla Brumfield; by her grandmother, Gloria Steward; grandfather, Donald (Judy) Scott Sr.; godmother, Peggy Francis; nephews, Dei-John Young Jr. and Kaiser Johnson; and along with aunts and uncles and numerous family and friends.

Arie was preceded in death by her father, Michael Stewart; her maternal grandmother, Melinda McGuire; her paternal grandfather, Ronald Williams; her uncle, Donald Scott Jr.; her great-grandparents, Oralee McGuire, Audrey Hollmand, Robert Nevis Sr., Cleveland Williams, Junius Evans Jr., and Edward Stewart.

Arie was a dear friend to many of her peers, loyal and compassionate, and always ready to lend her ear. She had a kind and gentle spirit with a smile that could brighten any room. Arie was the kind of person who could easily make new friends. She loved her family and would often bring her little brother Teddy with her to church. She had an adventurous spirit and carried a “let’s go” attitude. Arie was also known for her silliness.

One of Arie’s greatest talents was cooking, but not just for herself. Arie truly loved cooking for others. She was an expert at baking and could easily make a delicious batch of beignets. She also enjoyed having a variety of snacks on hand, particularly her Takis.

She was a member of New Life Methodist Church of La Grange (formerly First United Methodist Church) and was active in its Youth ministry program. Though she struggled with her diabetes, she would not let this hindrance prevent her for going on summer mission trips to serve those in need. She would support the church’s VBS program by performing opening skits to introduce the daily Bible lesson to the children. Arie was greatly admired and adored by this congregation.

A memorial service will be held at New Life Methodist Church of La Grange (1215 N. Von Minden St.) on Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. The service will be live streamed and can be viewed on the church’s website, newlifelg.org.
