Shimek
It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to a strong and loving man, Daniel Shimek who lost his battle with cancer on May 6, 2024. His partner Mary Harrell and sisters Shirley Jahn and Sherri Cervantez were by his side as he peacefully passed away.
Daniel was born on July 25, 1961, to Melvin and Rosemary Shimek. He grew up in La Grange and graduated from La Grange High School. He married Alana Dillingham on Nov. 14, 1986, and were married until her passing on June 21, 2001. He later met Mary Harrell who would be his life partner until his passing in May.
Daniel made his living as a truck driver for Sealy Mattress. He would also buy and remodel properties in La Grange and Brenham. Daniel loved to take weekend trips together with Mary and just hang out with family. He loved being “Opa” to his grandchildren. He was a strong and generous man who devoted his love and time to his family. His death has left a hole in our hearts and soul.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, Melvin and Rosemary Shimek; wife, Alana Shimek; in-laws, John and Carole Dillingham; brotherin- law, Larry Jahn; nephew, Jason Jahn; and daughter, Tiffany Mewis.
He leaves behind his life partner of 21 years, Mary Harrell; children, Ricky Mewis, Amber Murray, Chase Harrell, Skye Mewis, Hunter Woytek, Lisa and Randy Marak, Lori and Saxon Beck; grandchildren, Hunter and Hailey Harrell, Emma and Elli Mewis, Kendall and Hunter Hengst, Raven and Dustin Behrens, Tad and Jessi Beck; and great grandchildren, Jaxon, Paycen, Byler and Tracer Beck, Kynzie, Dawson, and Penney Behrens, and Harper Jo Hengst.
He also leaves behind brother, David and Connie Shimek; sister, Doris and David Cernosek; sister, Shirley Jahn and Ruben Rodriguez; sister, Sherri and Hector Cervantez; and nieces and nephews, Katie, Kyle, and Kinley Rustin, Tori, Jay, and Chase Taylor, Skylar, Ashley and Azaria Shimek, Ali and Michael Gonzales, Adam Cernosek, Laura, Brice, Luke, Jackson Delin, Joshua and Mitchell Cervantez, Philip, Faydra, Payton, and Aubrey Grimm, and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends.
