Funeral services for Elmo Schulze, 93 of Serbin, were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Ted Elmo Schulze was born on March 28, 1930, the only child of Oscar A. and Clara (Hohle) Schulze, in Lee County. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin on April 6, 1930, by Pastor Herman Schmidt and confirmed on April 18, 1943, at St. Paul Serbin by Pastor Herman Schmidt. His confirmation verse was 1 John 5:1, “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and everyone that loveth him that begat him also that is begotten of him.” On January 12, 1952, he married Adele Vogel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Pastor Arthur Arndt officiating. This marriage was blessed with three children, Lynette, Diann, and Daryl.
Elmo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, in Serbin.
After graduating from St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin, Elmo began his lifelong career in farming and ranching. He was a soft-spoken man who along with his wife and family raised different crops over the years including cotton, corn, milo, and peanuts. He raised cattle, hogs, and chickens and did some custom farm work in his younger years. He also helped his wife with a large garden every year. He always kept busy and regularly included his children and grandchildren in his projects. There were no boring summers. He was always the first to come when family members needed a helping hand.
Elmo was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin where he had served as an usher, on the Finance Committee, on the Board of Christian Education, and worked at the church picnics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar A. and Clara Schulze, his wife of close to 70 years, Adele Schulze, and his son-in-law Kenneth Wiederhold.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lynette Wiederhold of Serbin, and Diann Pietsch and husband Dennis of Giddings, his son, Daryl Schulze and wife Patricia of Serbin. Grandchildren include Jan Wiederhold of Houston, Ryan Pietsch of Frisco, Troy Wiederhold and wife Chelsea of Serbin, Zachary Pietsch of Frisco, Amber Baas and husband Andrew of New Braunfels, and Eric Schulze of Serbin. Great-grandchildren include Levi Wiederhold and Travis Wiederhold of Serbin.
Serving as pallbearers were Ryan Pietsch, Troy Wiederhold, Zachary Pietsch, Eric Schulze, Andrew Baas, and Larry Andres.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, General Fund, 1572 CR 211, Giddings, TX 78942, or to the charity of your choice.
