Schobel
Franklin Louis Schobel, born March 20, 1942 in Columbus, to Louis Schobel and Violet Klump Schobel passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026. He was surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Round Top.
Franklin worked as a masonry contractor for many years and took great pride in restoring many buildings in Columbus and the surrounding communities. He was also an avid hunter who enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially at his favorite place, “the ranch,” and had a lifelong passion for wildlife management. He never met a stranger and loved sharing stories from his life, always ready with a memory, lesson, or laugh. He especially enjoyed sharing his love of hunting and the outdoors with his family and creating lasting memories together.
Franklin considered his family to be his proudest accomplishment. He shared a long and loving partnership with his wife, Patsy Schmidt Schobel, who survives him. Together they raised two sons: Carl Schobel and wife, Kim of Carmine and Eric Schobel and wife Aimee of Round Top. He was also blessed with grandchildren Ethan Schobel, Tanner Schobel, Brooke Kocian and husband Koltin, Hunter Schobel and fiancé Kimberly Rohde - each of whom brought him pride and joy. Franklin cherished the time spent with them and especially enjoyed attending their sporting events. “Popo” will be missed dearly by his friends and family.
He is also survived by his brother, Leon and wife Karen Schobel, nephew Michael Schobel and niece Stephanie Bean and husband Kamuela.
Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Schobel and Violet Klump Schobel.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top, Hospice Brazos Valley or to a charity of one’s choice.
