Wayman

Roger Jay Wayman went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 10, 2026, at the age of 90. Jay was proceeded in death by his parents Jesse and Mildred Wayman, his wife of 68 years, Pauline Wayman and 10 of his 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by brother Sam Wayman and wife Donna of La Grange, his daughter Juanita Hoffman and husband Frank of La Grange, daughter Anita Giese and husband Gary of San Antonio, four grandchildren, Heather and husband Kevin, Josh and wife Jennifer, Michele and husband Bryan and Michael; seven great grandchildren, Wesley, Benjamin, Zachary, Haley, Quinn, Asher, and Olivia and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jay was born and raised in Goltry, Okla. and was the 12th of 12 children. He loved his family and enjoyed telling friends about his life in Goltry. After attending his first semester at Bethel College, Jay enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. in 1955. Shortly after the New Year in 1956 he was at a skating rink in the nearby town of Rolla, Mo. where he met Pauline who he always said was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. After a winter courtship, they were married in April 1956. Shortly after their marriage, Jay and Pauline were stationed in Germany where they had the opportunity to travel to France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria and visit their many friends and family members who were also stationed in the area at the time.

After being discharged from the Army, Jay earned his Bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma State University. His first teaching job was teaching Auto Mechanics at Moore High School in Moore, Okla. and then in 1965 was hired to teach Auto Mechanics at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi.

At Del Mar College he quickly became the Chairman of the Automotive Department and earned his Masters Degree at Corpus Christi State University.

While living in Corpus Christi, Jay taught during the day and spent his late afternoons raising cattle and working on his hobbies. He also served as an Elder at Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church. During that time, he beautifully restored two antique horse drawn carriages and one prize winning 1926 Ford Model-T.

In 1992 he retired from Del Mar College after 27 years of teaching and moved to La Grange.

Jay had a strong Christian faith and served as an Elder and on the Grounds Committee for several years at First Presbyterian Church in La Grange. He also generously volunteered his time at Second Chance and AMEN.

He was a man with a great sense of humor who never forgot a face. He was a founding member of the morning coffee group at Whataburger.

Jay was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026 from 2-6 p.m at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family was present to receive friends.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in La Grange with burial following at Winchester Cemetery.
