Dennis Schnell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in his hometown of La Grange.

Born on May 22, 1931, to the late Emil and Stella (Herdler) Schnell, Dennis’s life was a portrait of devotion, service, and joyous spirit.

Dennis’s journey began in the vibrant community of La Grange, where he spent his formative years surrounded by the love and guidance of his parents. His academic path led him to La Grange School, and he proudly completed his education at Yoakum High School, where he graduated with his senior class.

After graduation, Dennis honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy. His time in the service instilled in him a profound sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to his nation. Upon returning to civilian life, Dennis dedicated himself to serving his community as a manager of Thom McAn shoe store and became a dependable and friendly mail carrier where he retired, a role that allowed him to connect with and serve his neighbors for many years.

In the sphere of love and family, Dennis’s heart belonged to his beloved wife of 70 years, Allaray (Theriot) Schnell. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and mutual respect. Their love story was a testament to commitment and became a cherished example for their children, his son, Keith and wife Raye Schnell, his daughters, Denise and husband John Kaminski, and Nancy and husband Ken Hakemack. Dennis’s legacy continued to blossom with the birth of his grandchildren, Brittany Kaminski, Kassidy Huelsebusch and husband Gabe and Darian Schnell and her fiancé Jeff Smith, as well as his greatgrandchildren, Maci and Wyatt Strandell and Jayce Huelsebusch. Along with brother and sister-in-law, Dempsey and Juanita Theriot. He was a beacon of love and kindness for them, always ready with a warm smile, a playful tease, or a word of wisdom.

Dennis was a man of varied interests and an avid golfer, finding serenity on the greens and fostering friendships on the fairways. His love for travel took him and Allaray on numerous adventures, creating memories that would last a lifetime. A spirited soul, Dennis also found joy in the lively atmosphere of casinos, where he enjoyed the thrill of the game and the company of fellow enthusiasts.

Those who knew Dennis would describe him as loving, kind, and spirited, a man who embraced life with open arms and a generous heart. He was a pillar of strength for his family, a dependable friend to many, and a respected member of his community.

He was reunited with his parents, Emil and Stella, along with Irvin and Emily Theriot (inlaws), his son, Keith and daughter in law, Raye, his brother and sister law, Wendell and Carolyn McCary, his sister in law Margaret Theriot, and nephew, Mark Theriot.

His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have known him. As we say farewell to Dennis, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched so many others with its warmth and grace. His laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering spirit will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Dennis Schnell’s story is one of love, service, and the joy of living, a narrative that will be cherished and honored by all who were part of his remarkable journey.

The family will have a private celebration at a later date.
