Schmidt

A memorial service for Gerald Bruce Schmidt was held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. A visitation with the family present was scheduled from 1-2 p.m. on April 30, also at the funeral home.

Gerald Schmidt, 67 of Fayetteville, passed away on April 25, 2023 in Austin.

He was born in Port Lavaca on Sept. 7, 1955 to Eugene and Gladys (Rodiek) Schmidt. He graduated from Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca. He worked as a Facilities Manager for EchoStar for many years. After retirement, he returned to Fayette County and worked part-time for Lowe’s.

Gerald enjoyed hunting and collecting guns. He also enjoyed attending concerts at Gruene Hall with his daughters and watching his grandchildren play football and soccer. Gerald was a loving son, father and grandfather and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Gerald is survived by his mother, Gladys Schmidt; daughters, Tish Muniz (Aaron) of La Grange and Ashley Schmidt (Brad) of Giddings; brother, Stephan Schmidt (Barbara); sister Susan Welch (Phillip); brother-in-law, Stephen Fuhrman; grandchildren, Reece Kollaja, Kole Krnavek, Kylie Schmidt along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Schmidt and sister, Eugenie “Genie” Fuhrman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of one’s choice.
