Schluter
Calray “Cal” Melvin Schluter, 81, of Warrenton, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, in Brenham.
Cal was born July 29, 1943, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Ray and Melba Schluter. He was the second youngest of five children in the Schluter family. The family moved to New Braunfels in 1949 when he was in first grade.
Cal graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1962 and attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos. He left school in 1963 and moved to Houston, where he did carpentry and worked at the US Post Office in Houston, and Van Nuys, Calif. until he retired early and began selling antiques and collectibles full-time.
He owned antique and collectible stores in Wallis until he moved and opened Little House on the Hill Antiques Field in Warrenton in 1991.
He had a love for history and gardening and preferred country life over a big city. He enjoyed researching antiques and sharing their history with customers and colleagues. He found happiness in gardening and watching plants grow and flourish.
Cal was preceded in death by his partner, John Savell and by his parents, Ray and Melba Schluter.
Cal will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Laura Hobbs (Spouse, Mike) of Darlington, S.C., and son, Darren Schluter (spouse, Cindy) of Cypress; grandchildren: Robert Baxley of Orlando, Fla., Ashley Schluter of Cypress, and Katie Schluter of Cypress; and his sister, Ellarae.
