Rudloff

Rudloff

Percy Lloyd Rudloff, most importantly known as Popo, passed away July 13, 2024, in Austin, Texas at the age of 91.

Percy was born to Walter and Nora (Krebs) Rudloff on May 2, 1933, in Shelby, Texas. He was baptized and confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Shelby.

He met a girl at Warrenton Dance Hall and decided he had to keep her. (His words). He was drafted into the US Army on January 6, 1954. Shortly after, he married that girl, Norma (Bathe) Rudloff on March 20, 1954, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top and they moved to Chicago, Illinois on May 23, 1954, after she graduated from school. He was honorably discharged on January 6, 1956. Percy and Norma made their way back to Shelby, Texas and soon after built their forever home in Round Top, Texas where they raised their two boys, Ricky and Troy.

He held several jobs in his lifetime, from working for his cousin, Kermit, at Rudloff Brick and Tile, running a mobile feed mill for Sanford Schmidt, and finally at the Winedale Historical Society as a maintenance man, where he would eventually retire from, but not before taking all of his granddaughters to see the resident donkey, Eeyore.

He was fond of many things, hunting, fishing, playing baseball, telling stories of the past, his cows, cats, and his “Little Buddy Roscoe” who was waiting for him with the Lord. Playing dominoes and drinking a cold beer and eating peanuts in the afternoons. Picking pecans and tending to his garden. The list could go on for miles because he put his heart into anything and everything that he did.

Of everything he’s done in life, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishment was his family. Sons Ricky (Barbara), Troy (Vicki), Granddaughters, Megan (Brandon), Diana (Gerald), Mandi (Drew), Allysa (Andrew). Great Grandchildren, Rion and Reagan Runge, Shelby, Calvin, Gerald Jr, Josephine, and Garrett Champagne, Raiden, Adeline, and Ainslee Hedgpeth, Hunter and Wyatt Wagner. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Troy Don Rudloff; brothers: Dennis and wife, Anita Rudloff; Rubin and wife, Lois Rudloff; brother- in-law, Benjamin and wife, Deloris Bathe; sister-in-law, Elfrieda and husband, Marvin Leber. As well as parents-inlaw, Frank and Frieda Bathe.

A memorial service will be held July 31, 2024, 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top with a light lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers we are requesting donations to the American Legion post 602 Shelby Texas, in his honor.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange, Texas. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www. lagrangefunerals.com.
