Rotter

Lillian Annette (Croft) Rotter, 82, of La Grange, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023.

Lillian was born in Millersburg, Ohio on Sept. 5, 1940, the daughter of the late Marie (Hoffmann) and Victor Robert Croft. She was raised on her family farm.

Lillian went to school at Keene High School in Charm, Ohio, graduating in 1958. She received her RN at Grant Hospital, Columbus, Ohio and was honored as the student nurse of the year by the Governor of Ohio. She met Willie Rotter, and they were married in Columbus, Ohio on Sept. 16, 1961.

Lillian was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Rutersville. She served in the role of pastor’s wife to Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Maxwell, Bethany Lutheran, Fredericksburg, St. John Lutheran, Bellville, and Waldeck Lutheran, Waldeck.

She enjoyed handicrafts and had a love for wildflowers. While living in Fredericksburg in the 1960’s she met Lady Bird Johnson on several occasions and together they shared their love for wildflowers. But most of all she loved being “Grandma.”

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Willie Rotter; son, Mark Rotter and wife, Sabina of La Grange, and grandson, Bruno Rotter; three sisters: Donna Zimmerman of McLean, Va.; Roberta Barnett and husband, Don of Berwyn, Pa. and Linda Sawyer and husband, Don of Woodstock, Va. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; son, Matthew Paul Rotter; brothers: John Croft and wife, Grace and Paul Croft and wife, Thelma and brother-in-law, Heinz Zimmerman.

Visitation was held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Rutersville, 5743 St. Hwy 159, La Grange. Family received friends at this time.

Funeral Services were held following visitation at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rutersville, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery, 100 S. Lester, La Grange.
