Rohrbach
Ivor M. “Marie” Rohrbach passed away Oct. 3, 2022, at the age of 91 years.
She was born Jan. 17, 1931, in West Point to Christian and Linda (Lingnau) Prilop.
Ivor was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James “Jimmy” Rohrbach; her parents, Christian and Linda Prilop; sister, Grace Blankenburg; and great-grandson Emerson Halstead.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam (Larry) Peterson of Spring Branch, and Cindy Preston (Frank Kocurek fiancée) of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Megan (Cody) Balzen of Lumberton, Zachary (Whitney) Peterson of Eugene, Ore., and Heather (Clint) Halstead of San Antonio; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Stone Howard, Bodhi Wade Halstead and Ellen James Balzen; brothers-in-law Charles Rohrbach, Jr., of San Antonio, and John Morkovsky of Victoria.
Ivor (“Marie” as friends often called her) was a full-time homemaker who doted on her family. Meals were meticulously prepared; “boxed” was something she couldn’t comprehend. The girls’elementary classmates all knew her and loved that she was the mom who always brought homemade “treats” for holiday parties!
One of her greatest passions was sewing. She created most of her own clothing as well as those of Pam and Cindy. Countless hours were spent gazing through pattern books and selecting just the right fabric to ensure each end result was a “one of a kind” creation! Numerous curtains, doll clothes, and later clothing and blankets for the grandchildren kept her busy. Adornments of embroidered flowers, special buttons, lace, and appliqued elements ensured each item held her “special touch”.
Ivor enjoyed ceramics, the craftiness and comradery. In later years, she and Jimmy became avid quilters, many times gifting their creations to those deemed worthy of the lengthy time and love they took to create. She was one of George Strait’s biggest fans, delighted in adventures with the grandkids, enjoyed dancing to a good ol’ German Polka or Waltz, and played a highly competitive game of Canasta.
The lockdown of Covid and loss of her doting lifetime partner took their toll. Now, she and Jimmy are reunited. We miss them but take comfort in the knowledge that we will see them once again in a grander and more beautiful place!
A private family “Celebration of Life” will be held on a later date, with inurnment in the Columbarium, Fort Sam Houston.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Boysville ( boysvilletexas.org).
