Radenz
Deanna Anita Radenz found eternal peace with the Lord on June 11, 2023, after a long, courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Deanna was born Nov. 16, 1943, to Anita (Matejowsky) and DJ Meinke. She was baptized at the Warda Lutheran Church and confirmed at Waldeck Lutheran Church. She graduated from Round Top Carmine High School in 1962. After high school she married Ernest Radenz on Nov. 16, 1964, at the Waldeck Lutheran Church. They moved to Austin where she worked at Capital National Bank, but soon returned to Waldeck to manage the family dairy. They joined Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, La Grange, on March 1966. They were blessed with a daughter, Lisa. Sadly, on Feb. 11, 1973, Ernest passed away. Deanna dedicated her life to taking care of her family.
Deanna worked at Fayette Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Her next occupational venture began when she was employed by the Round Top Carmine school district. Showing much devotion for the elementary children, she remained with the district for 48 years, retiring in 2022. Many generations of students loved her as they benefited from her guidance and support each day. Mrs. Deanna will be remembered fondly by students and the special friends she made at R.T.C. After school hours, Deanna worked at Winn’s Pharmacy in La Grange, and later she worked part time at the Round Top Mercantile. Again, developing lasting friendships.
Deanna always enjoyed being outdoors. She liked her cows and especially loved the black Brangus ones. She enjoyed being on the tractor doing farm chores. She looked forward to mowing while keeping her yard pretty and decorated with plants.
Another one of her talents was decorating for weddings and parties. Deanna had that special vision for making things beautiful. And, oh, the bows she tied.
Back at home, there were dogs to love and usually one named Princess. She had a passion for heelers until a special beagle puppy stole her heart. Reba became a great companion and protector while Deanna rested at home. Deanna supported many charitable causes and community events. She baked those one-of-a-kind cakes for auctions and donated them anonymously.
Her family will remember her as a great cook because she took pride in their get togethers making everyone’s favorite dishes like pea, chicken and potato salads. Deanna also loved shopping and finding just the right gifts for loved ones.
August 1995, Deanna received her special gift when her granddaughter, Marissa was born. She shared many of her cooking secrets with only Marissa. In the evenings, Deanna, Lisa and Marissa enjoyed many rides in the truck or on the Mule with the dogs, checking cows and just spending time together. More family activities included trips to the beach, water parks, and livestock shows.
To reminisce over all the special times, Deanna leaves behind a daughter, Lisa Hibbeler and husband, Randy Zapalac; granddaughter, Marissa Hibbeler; nephews, Paul and Rachel Meinke, Dean Meinke and wife, Valerie; Charlie Allen, John Allen, and nieces: Michelle Merka and husband, Dave; and Doady Rogers and husband, John; brother-in-law, Chad Allen, and a special cousin, Billy Matejowsky.
Deanna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; in laws; her brother, James Meinke; and sister-inlaws, Marilyn Meinke, and Judy Allen.
Whether she was Mom, Nanna, or friend, her loved ones will embrace her lasting impact. Cancer did not define her. Deanna’s many talents along with that special independent attitude mixed with compassion and determination will be remembered. Deanna Radenz truly lived and did many things that helped people and made her life complete.
