Josephine Jane Hilsher Pflughaupt died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 1, 2022. Josephine was born on March 13, 1925, to Czech parents Chas andAlbina Halamicek Hilsher at the family home in Roznov. She was the sixth of eight children. Josephine graduated from Fayetteville High School where she met her future husband, Leander Pflughaupt. She loved school and graduated second in her class. Right after high school, Josephine married Leander on July 5, 1942 in Houston, where they made their lifetime home. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Leander, her son Larry, her parents, her sisters, Elenora Lange and Gladys Havemann, and her brothers Alfred, Charles, John, and Harold.

Josephine is survived by her daughter, Carol Globke with special friend Joe Fietsam; son, Lynn, and daughter-in-law, Dorothy. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Lee and wife Monica, Cathy Pittenger and husband Dave, Karl and wife Linda, Greg Goedeke and wife Lacy and Paul and wife Crystal and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Martinak and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Josephine and Leander traveled all over the United States and Europe, they even met some of Josephine’s extended family in the Czech Republic. Their weekends were spent at their farm outside of Frelsburg where Josephine had a huge garden and raised a little bit of everything. She enjoyed harvesting the fruit from their pecan, peach, and fig trees, and dewberry vines. Josephine loved to read, garden, visit with family and friends, and go to dances. Josephine was a member of SPJST Lodge 88 for over 78 years where she was very active in many committees, and even worked in the office as a financial secretary for numerous years. She was also a member of Hermann Sons.

Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas 77055. Funeral Services will be Friday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Funeral Home chapel followed by interment in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.

Pallbearers include Lee Pflughaupt, Karl Pflughaupt, Paul Pflughaupt, Greg Goedeke, Dave Pittenger and Jack Pittenger.
