Petter
Adeline Mae Petter, 81 of Houston passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.
Adeline was born in Columbus on March 24, 1943, the daughter of Lee Roy and Elizabeth (Zapalac) Shula.
In 1961, Adeline graduated from St. Johns High School as class Valedictorian. On May 17, 1964 she married her high school sweetheart, George Petter at St. John Catholic Church in Fayetteville. Together they raised two daughters, Susan Marie Petter and Lorrie (Petter) Spenny.
While her daughters were in elementary school at All Saints Catholic Church, she volunteered her time there as a Teachers Aide. She rejoined the work force after they graduated to middle school holding various administrative assistant and clerical roles at various companies in the Heights where they resided for over 30 years.
Adeline worked at Pennzoil Corporation for 16 years and held various positions there including Payroll Clerk and Executive Assistant. She retired early to take care of her oldest daughter, Susan. In her spare time, you could find her in her front yard maintaining her beautiful roses and any other flower that caught her eye. You were definitely in trouble if you accidentally pulled up any of her flowers thinking they were weeds! She also enjoyed traveling, reading and baking her kolaches and apple strudel. One spring she travelled to Prague with her husband, George, and youngest daughter, Lorrie and her husband Richard. Her daughter’s sister-in-law and brother-in law, Jane and Joe Heide of Kansas City also accompanied them. She was the official translator for the trip and enjoyed sampling the local cuisine including the strudels.
She is survived by her youngest daughter, Lorrie Spenny and husband Richard of Hempstead; brother Lee Roy Shula and wife, Donna of Ellinger; brother-in-law, Arnie Petter and wife, Debbie of Spring; sister-in-law, Lois Pereira and husband, Gene of Houston; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Spenny of Kona, Hawaii; step-grandson, Jack Spenny of Seattle, Washington and step-great granddaughter, Paige Spenny of Lovell, Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Petter; daughter, Susan Marie Petter; her parents, Lee Roy and Elizabeth (Zapalac) Shula; Grandparents Charles and Frances Shula; and father-inlaw, Arnold Petter and wife Olga; and step-father-in-law, Peter Jankowiak.
The family wishes to thank the aides at Bristol Park in Cypress for their loving care of Adeline along with the staff of Altus Hospice.
