Pam Rose
Phyllis Ann Murray Rose, known affectionately as Pam, passed away at the age of 85 at Ascension-Seton Hospital in Austin following a brief but devastating illness on Oct. 6, 2024.
The lovely brunette baby girl was born in St. Louis on Nov. 28, 1938 to Charles and Ernestine (Burgarin) Murray.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Brian Rose of Chicago.
She is survived by her son, Michael Rose and his wife Nancy of Davis, Calif.
Pam was the big sister of Charles Murray and his wife La Juana of La Grange, and the “Auntie” to Amanda Murray of Houston.
Interesting facts: Pam appeared in a long-running TV commercial for Oertel’s 92 beer and dated Lyle Waggoner, who later became a regular on the “Carol Burnett Show.” Pam modeled fashions at Famous and Barr department store in St. Louis and enjoyed water skiing. An avid reader, Pam collected mystery novels by Sue Grafton, Jacqueline Winspear, Nelson de Mille, and John Grisham. Her tastes in TV ranged from westerns to “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Murder, She Wrote.” She watched many series on PBS. Pam was a loyal armchair fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved to browse the greeting card aisle at the local Hallmark store and had a knack for finding the perfect card for each lucky recipient. She could have been a professional gift wrapper before the popularity of gift bags and tissue paper.
Pam worked in the banking and home construction fields and raised her sons in the Bay Area of California. As an empty nester, she began moving east, first to Tahoe and then to Denver. When she returned to St. Louis, Pam worked as an executive assistant for Maritz Global Events and cared for her aging parents.
In 2016, at her brother’s suggestion, she quit shoveling snow and scraping ice off her car and moved to La Grange.
A celebration of her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of La Grange at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Texas Heroes Museum in La Grange.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kyle Hudson at Tejas Healthcare Center, the nurses at Monument Hill Nursing Center, and the very patient and caring nurses and staff at Ascension-Seton in Austin.
Cremation was handled by Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home in La Grange. See their web page if you wish to leave a condolence note. Pam’s ashes will be scattered in Texas and in California.
