Gustavo Orona, 80 years old of La Grange, passed away peacefully on Aug. 30, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Gustavo was born on Dec. 25, 1944 in La Barranca, Durango, Mexico, to Enrique Orona and Maria De Jesus Rangel. He married his beloved wife, Matilde Esquivel, and together raised seven children.

He will be remembered for his big, bright smile, his infectious laugh, and his wonderful sense of humor that could light up any room. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the pride of his heart. A man who loved to stay busy, he found peace and fulfillment outdoors whether tending to his yard, working with his hands, or simply soaking in the fresh air. He showed by example the value of hard work and finding beauty in everyday life. He will be remembered for his perseverance, his love for family, and the happiness he brought to those around him.

Gustavo is survived by his wife of 59 years, Matilde; children, Enrique Orona and wife Lidia of La Grange, Everardo Orona of La Grange, Angelica Yacovodonato and husband Pascual of Houston, Alicia Cardiel and husband Miguel of Arlington, Gustavo Orona Jr. of San Antonio, Veronica Anzaldua and husband Carl of La Grange, Jose Orona and wife Caitlyn of Round Rock, 14 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Maria De Jesus, his four sisters, Severa, Victoria, Maria Joel, Socorro, and brother Rojelio Orona.
