It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gene Edgar Moellenberg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, who passed away on Jan. 26, 2025 at the age of 79 in Houston.

Gene was born in La-Grange in 1945 to Edgar Moellenberg and Elsie Treybig Moellenberg, and his childhood consisted of learning the ins and outs of farm life. In his youth, he was a member of 4-H and FFA. One big accomplishment he enjoyed retelling was participating in the Houston Rodeo Calf Scramble and catching one of the calves in the arena. Gene’s early education took place in Fayetteville, Texas. He went on to graduate from the University of Houston in 1967 and then married Margaret Ann McGrew on August 5th , 1967. He proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam war as a communication specialist aboard the USS Jamestown, performing Signals Intelligence tasks in the waters off South Vietnam. He retired from Able Communications in 2016 after dedicating many years in sales.

His greatest joys were teaching his kids and grandkids about family history, farm life and especially those “MooCows.” He enjoyed attending baseball games at the Astrodome with his son and watching his daughter cheer for the University of Houston. And every year, he took pride in attending Veteran’s Day and Grandparent’s Day at his Grandchildren’s schools. He was especially proud of when his son went into law enforcement and when his daughter followed in his footsteps and attended his Alma Mater.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Elsie Moellenberg, Daniel Kocian, Emil Koehl, and Trey Rowley.

He is survived by his wife Margaret of 57 years; his children: Jason Moellenberg, Julie Cisneros and husband David Cisneros; grandchildren: Konway Moellenberg, Garrett Easton Moellenberg (GEM), Gavin Cisneros, and Madelyn “Maddie” Cisneros; sister Lucille Koehl, niece, nephews and cousins.

His legacy of love and dedication to family and friends will live on in our hearts forever.

The Funeral was held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4213 Magnum Rd, Houston, Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, at 11 a.m., with the viewing starting at 10 a.m.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Rutersville Cemetery, 4214 Old College Rd., La Grange.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to any charity of your choice.
