Robert Cecil Marburger, 90, of Columbus, passed away at his home on Jan. 12, 2024 after a long and successful life.

Cecil was born in Houston on April 1, 1933 to Robert and Ella (Gest) Marburger. He was a graduate of Baylor University in Waco and The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. On May 29, 1954, he married his wife of 67 years, Sylvia (Smith) Marburger. After completing his medical training in family practice in Houston in 1959, he established his practice in Columbus spanning 40 years. In that time, he performed surgeries, delivered babies, and made many house calls.

In Columbus, Cecil and Sylvia raised three children. He loved his work, but also loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. His most special times were gathering family for long weekends at the family ranch, enjoying time together laughing, pitching washers, and playing practical jokes.

Cecil is survived by his two children: son, Byron Marburger and his wife Rebecca, and daughter, Brenda Marburger Anderson and her husband Dale; grandchildren Colin (Tess), Mason (Megan), Miles (Heidi), Elizabeth (Saagar), and Price (Olga); great-grandchildren Sawyer and Ryce; and brother Jerry Marburger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sylvia; and his son, Robert Cecil “Bobby” Marburger, Jr.
