Funeral services for James Wallace “Wally” Lehmann, 85 of Warda, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda with Rev. Dustin Beck officiating. Burial followed at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors provided by the American Legion York Post 276 in Giddings. Visitation was held Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2024 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family was present for visitation Saturday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
James Wallace “Wally” Lehmann passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024 at the age of 85 years, one month and eleven days at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center. Wally was born on Feb. 24, 1939 in Warda to Willie and Ruby (Pietsch) Lehmann.
He lived most of his life in the Warda community where he was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He was baptized there on March 5, 1939 by Rev. Paul C. Eifert and confirmed on May 24,1953 by Pastor John L. Herzog. His confirmation verse was Psalm 23: 1 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
He served in the Texas National Guard at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas from 1955 to 1964. On Sept. 19, 1964 he was united in holy matrimony to Carolyn Hartfield at Holy Cross Lutheran Church by Rev. H.O. Hartfield. Their union was blessed by three children: Diane, Donny and Ricky.
Wally worked most of his life as a carpenter taking great pride in pointing out all the houses he helped build. He enjoyed taking care of his cattle, gardening, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed hunting in the Hill Country with the Brenham Poor Boy Hunters. He was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda where he served as a trustee, financial steward, and co-chair of the church picnic BBQ.
Wally is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol of Warda; one daughter, Diane and Gary Becker of Warda; two sons, Donald (Donny) and Felicia Lehmann of Kerrville and Ricky and Janis Lehmann of Warda; seven granddaughters, Abby and Chesston Melcher of Cypress, Sophie Becker of Warda, Hailey, Hannah, and Hollie Lehmann of Kerrville, Brianna and Brooke Lehmann of Warda; one great granddaughter, Scarlett Kate Melcher of Cypress; one sister, Cydell Hartfield of Giddings and one brother, Harry and Patricia Lehmann of Warda; sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Bobby Buscha and Sandra Lehmann, both of Warda; Ethel Stringfellow of Burkburnett and Joanne Hartfield of Noblesville, Ind.; Sue Hartfield of Webberville; Sharon Hartfield of Amarillo; and one brother-in-law, Rev. Robert and Lily Hartfield of Lansdale, Pa. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ruby Lehmann and parentsin- law, Rev. Herbert and Frieda Hartfield; brothers, Jimmie Lehmann and Allan Lehmann; brothers-in-law, Rev. Clemens Hartfield, Billy Stringfellow, Roy Hartfield, Otto Hartfield, and Rev. Paul Hartfield; and one sister-in-law, Esther Gaston.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center and Hospice of South Texas.
